“We do owe a debt to our wonderfully humorous and kind Chaplain Mitzi Schwarz, who superbly and sublimely officiated our wedding at The Ambrose Hotel in Santa Monica.

In a pre-planned almost to the second 40 minute ceremony, Mitzi delivered a hybrid Christian-Jewish-Yoruba blessing in front of our nearest and dearest as her bon mots danced brilliantly into the ether of a spectacular, sunlit mid morning to late afternoon day. Mitzi then wove a touching wedding ceremony script around “The Bard and Milady” that will live long in the memory.”

Wedding officiant Mitzi Schwarz with a bride

Hello! I’m Mitzi!

Interfaith and Multicultural weddings are more and more common, as more and more of us understand that we are one big human family. I love serving Interfaith and Multicultural couples! How many times has an engaged couple asked me, is it possible for us to have an Interfaith marriage ceremony that honors the traditions and cultures of both of us? Can we speak to two (or more!) very different religious sensibilities within the same wedding ceremony? Can we create our own rituals, that perhaps no one has done before? My answer to all these questions is yes, yes, and yes!! Because when you hire me to perform your wedding ceremony, you’re getting a very creative, very open-minded, and very well-trained and Certified Wedding Officiant who’s also a Certified Chaplain. It’s my job and my joy to affirm you both!

Something fascinating I’ve learned in my training is this: as it turns out, wedding ceremonies across cultures share many similarities – just like people! For instance, Jews and Christians bless wine, and Asian cultures have tea ceremonies; these are both what we call “libation ceremonies”. You can have a wine blessing and a tea blessing, all within the same ceremony! Muslim and Indian cultures include blessings for parents, as do Jewish weddings. And imagine this: the Jewish tradition of breaking the glass can be combined with the African/Black tradition of Jumping the Broom. This is because, on a fundamentally psychological level, both rituals symbolize moving from one state of being into another.  And that’s precisely what marriage is: moving from a state of singlehood into a state of deep union with another.

Today, we live in a time when we must affirm who we are and embrace all parts of our identities. This Wedding Officiant encourages creativity and self-expression.

Because what the world needs now more than ever is Love, Sweet Love.

Let’s talk about your wedding day!
